Description

Gonioma kamassii is a species that is endemic to South Africa.

It is a fairly hardy, evergreen shrub or small tree with a dense crown of leathery, shiny, dark green leaves. The bark is smooth at first, aging to scale-like fissures.

Clusters of small, white, wonderfully scented flowers are borne throughout the year but with a peak in October. They are followed by upright leathery pods that split to release the seeds.

Plant in shade or semi-shade in compost rich soil. This beautiful little tree is ideal for small gardens. Quite similar to Buxus sp. but with larger leaves. Prunes well and makes a decorative garden subject.
