Afrocanthium mundianum is a hardy, evergreen to semi-deciduous, small tree or large shrub with straight trunks dressed in grey bark, and branches that emerge at right angles, giving this tree a very distinct signature. In Spring, newly unfurling leaf buds are bright, lime green, and leaves mature to a darker, shiny green and have slightly wavy margins. The small, white flowers (spring) attract many insects and therefore many insect eating birds to the garden. The fruit that follows is unevenly oblong in shape and black when ripe. It is relished by birds.
This small tree has resilient timber (It seems to be resistant to termite and borer attack) that is used for fencing posts, implements and sometimes for furniture. It is beautiful planted as part of a bird attracting bushclump, forest or forest margin.
Plant Afrocanthium mundianum in an area with very good drainage and don't overwater.
